Community Partners

Baptist Senior Family values engaging with our neighbors in a wide variety of ways, in service to others through collaborative partnerships.

From participating in research that furthers technology for seniors to connecting with local organizations that make a difference, we are always looking for ways to make an impact and uplift lives.

Believing that research and technology can support people in aging well, Baptist Senior Family has partnered with Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotic Caregiving and Human Interaction Lab on several of their projects, including providing feedback for large language models (LLM) as speech interfaces. This technology could assist individuals who have lost motor function due to neurodegenerative disease, stroke, or spinal cord injury. Baptist Senior Family and CMU were honored with LeadingAge PA’s 2025 Innovation of the Year Award for these collaborative efforts.

Providence Point residents have participated for over 10 years in the University of Pittsburgh’s study of osteoporosis. This research could lead to the development of better treatments for older men and women who are at risk or already live with bone density loss, osteoporosis, and increased falls risk. Where most studies are conducted on younger populations despite the fact that older adults suffer the greatest morbidity and mortality from the disease, the University of Pittsburgh studies older adults.

South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) is a local organization of volunteers, donors, and partners working to reduce the effects of suburban poverty in the South Hills. Every year, Baptist Senior Family runs a food drive to contribute to SHIM’s efforts, helping ensure food security for individuals and families in our community. In fall 2025, Baptist Senior Family collected 437 pounds of food, in addition to making a financial donation to SHIM.

Each year, residents and staff of Baptist Senior Family collect toys to contribute to the Carnegie Boys & Girls Club toy drive. Our partnership has become not only a fun tradition for residents but a meaningful way to connect with families in the community and spread holiday cheer to those who need it most.

Recognizing a need among Baptist Senior Family residents, we partner with VisAbility Pittsburgh to provide education on tools and strategies for living independently with low vision, options for technology and adaptive devices, and support groups with peers managing similar circumstances.

Baptist Senior Family is proud to lace up and hit the pavement to sponsor and participate in the Pittsburgh Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Baptist Senior Family also enjoys supporting the Alzheimer’s Association Greater PA Chapter by offering time and expertise on committees, hosting events, and providing art for auctions to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
